Hello There.

Set The Table was born out of a love of entertaining and of making things beautiful, even in the midst of a pandemic. While the world paused and my work as a fashion writer came to a standstill, I took what I found out was a much needed step back from what was an ultra busy life.

My late mother was a talented quilter and seamstress, and taught me how to sew cloth napkins when I was in my 20s. I have set our dinner table with them almost every night and I have made more napkin sets for family and friends that I can begin to count. After we were under stay at home orders here in Seattle, I pulled out my old sewing machine, (and then my daughter’s since I killed mine off) and sewed through almost all the fabric I had, then moved on to Etsy and local sources, stood in line at fabric stores in a mask and gloves and even bought left over fabric from a friend. It made me feel calm and happy to be creative again.

Right now more than ever it is important for us to come together. Setting a table with cloth napkins, real silverware and that china you save for “special occasions” is a perfect way to enjoy dinner any night of the week. And cloth is a much greener more earth friendly way to dine. It doesn’t matter if it is Coq au vin or burgers, setting a beautiful table and sharing a meal is the perfect way to find that connection with one another.

A little about me….

I live in Seattle, Washington with my husband of 25 years and our two teenage children. When I am not putting the pedal to the metal on my sewing machine, I am the fashion writer for Vanguard Seattle, and online arts and culture magazine. I write in my style and fashion blog, West Fulton Street, from time to time as well. I love fashion and its history, pink champagne, gardens, dinner parties, the movies, vintage glassware and silverware, and France, amongst many other things.

All of the fabrics I choose are prints that enchant me and that I would set my own table with. Some fabrics are made to order, some are vintage, and some are just beautiful prints I love. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you see something that sold as I can sometimes get certain fabrics on reorder. And I’d love it if you would follow me on Instagram to catch the latest designs.

As this website evolves, I may be adding other things that I think would be a unique addition to a stylish table. In the meantime, I hope I can inspire you to reconnect with the beauty around you and set your own lovely table.

Cheers,

Lisa
